Talking about 10 years back of US president foreign policy history, there is a lot of difference between the foreign policy of Barack Obama and Donald Trump towards People's Republic of China.
While Obama was very soft to People's Republic of China and Trump is very harsh towards People's Republic of China following the Trade War.

its military forces.
(c) TRAVEL.—The President should encourage the travel of high-
level United States officials to Taiwan, in accordance with the
Taiwan Travel Act (Public Law 115–135).

This Act seriously violates 'One china policy'
And it also Interfere kn the internal matters of China.
The Taiwan itself calls Republic of China
and China itself is People's Republic of China .
China always pressurizes international community to not keep diplomatic relations with Taiwan and to keep Taiwan isolated.
So Taiwan can become so weak , that China can attack Taiwan without spending so much on military, and occupy Taiwan.
But as per Section 209 of the Act to improve US relations with Taiwan, and this would increase the problem of China to occupy Taiwan if the world superpower USA come along with Taiwan.

On 31st December 2018, Trump signed Asia Reassurance Initiative Act 2018.
Why ACT WAS SIGNED?
The things mentioned in the Act with special emphasis on Taiwan

You must have heard about an idiom 'Achilles Heel', if not let me tell you Achilles was a brave warrior who only had one part of his body vulnerable to attack, like if he is injured in any part of the body, he can survive but if he is injury in his heels, then be will die.
