The deal has been made to strengthen Indian Naval capabilities against aerial threats to aircraft carriers and large ships.
What is Kamov-31 ?
Instead of being a military or a transport helicopter. It is a warning helicopter.
It was designed for Soviet Navy, and currently is in hands of Russian Navy.
USE OF KAMOV-31
It will be deployed on aircraft carriers for early naval threats because of it's long range detection.
Because as aircraft carriers being a valuable asset for a country, we can't risk such a valuable thing. So Kamov-31 will be used in a case of a country wants to send aircraft carrier to a region full of tensions having a higher number of chances of getting attacked, so first helicopter will be used and it will be checked that there are no enemy ship in the waters near the aircraft carrier. If there is, it will alert the Captain of the Aircraft Carrier and defensive countermeasures could be taken.
