U.S. national security adviser John Bolton said on 13 December 2018 that  There will be no meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and  U.S. President Donald Trump unless and until Russia holds Ukrainian ships and sailors seized near Crimea.

 Bolton told reporters "I don’t see circumstances in the foreseeable future where such a meeting could take place until the ships and the crews are released.
